Week 2: What is a function?

A function is when for every input there is a unique and single output. The function notation is usually a variable such as f or g following by (x). For example, an equation of a function would be f(x) = 3x+4. The domain is what you can out into the value for x. For square roots, the function should be set greater than or equal to zero. For functions with the x on the denominator, you have to set it equal to zero to find the values it cannot be (any value that makes the denominator zero. Fr equations that have a square root as the denominator, instead if setting it greater than or equal to zero, you must set it greater than so that the the value does not equal zero. To test if a graph is a function, the vertical line test may be used. The vertical line test is a test in which you place a vertical line over the graph and if two points on the line touch the vertical line, then it is not a function. Finally, the names for x-intercepts come in different forms meaning the same thing. The names are roots, zeros, and solutions.

Week 1

During the first full week of instruction, I reviewed inequalities and the formulas for circles. We went over the equations to find distance. For circles, we went over the equation of a circle and how to find its radius, and midpoint. For inequalities we went over the basic rules and also how to shade the graph after plotting the points.
To practice calculating inequalities, we did an in class activity in which we would go around the room solving inequalities. We also learned how to use webassign, which is a disgrace to tradition of written work which forces the student to practice not only penmanship, but to get into the habit of showing their work which aids in remembering equations and concepts through the depiction of written work. According to phsychologicalscience.org, sciencedaily.com, boston.com and many other sources, writing by hand is proven to aid memorization.

All About Me

I came from South Pasadena Middle School and currently live in South Pasadena. The reason I attend Maranatha is because my family and I thought that it would be a better environment for studying than a public school. Also, Maranatha offers more AP courses than South Pasadena High. I used to have a sticker collection when I was little and grandma hobbies such as knitting, cross-stitching and sewing. I've only ever played individual sports meaning no teams such as gymnastics, ice-skating, and horseback riding. I like to think that I am a quick learner and a determined student. I get annoyed/frustrated/angry quite easily, but am also pretty good at hiding it if I want to.
